  3. BASE CURVE AND SECONDARY CURVE

  5. Most contact lenses, rigid and hydrogel, are 
  6. made with more than one curve on the back 
  7. surface to fit the eye.  The central curve is 
  8. called the base curve and the radius of this 
  9. curve is called the base curve radius (BCR); 
  10. back optic zone radius (BOZR); 
  11. posterior central curve radius (PCCR) or 
  12. back central optic radius (BCOR).

  14. One or more curves with a longer radius 
  15. (often referred to as a flatter radius) are 
  16. added to the back of the lens towards the 
  17. edge.  The first curve beyond the base 
  18. curve is called the secondary curve and its radius is referred to as the secondary curve radius (SCR); posterior secondary curve radius (PSCR) or back peripheral optic radius (BPOR1).
